This container planting outside the local post office gets my (ahem) stamp of approval. The plumed celosias, mealycup sage, pansies and violas seen here are all annuals that can be purchased or grown from seed for a modest price. There's simply no excuse anymore for institutional vats filled with crayon-yellow marigolds and fire-engine red salvias. I can't wait to plagiarize pay homage to this composition in a container of my own some day.

Amen, to getting rid of red salvias, and even the orange-yellow marigolds. I like that combination in the photo.

Yes, I think this really works. It's nice to see that such a striking arrangement could be put together (at the post office!) with relatively low-maintenance, low-cost plants.
