thanks for the advice on the red pepper flakes. I was using cayenne diluted with water as a spray for the tulips but, alas! no good at all. Now I've armed myself with a Sam's Club-sized container of red pepper flakes in the hopes of success. And thank you for your windowbox suggestions!
