Although I've been immune to dahlia fever so far, I will be trying out a few new dahlias this year in the garden. I like them, I really do...but we're not getting serious yet, m'kay? 'Bishop's Children' are on deck for seed starting next, and if le Mart de Wal has those pretty bedding dahlias again this year ('Cezanne', a luscious warm yellow, so bright and beautiful...until they roasted and shriveled away mid-summer), I'll pick them up too. Meanwhile, my husband's interest has been piqued by the dahlias he saw in a garden on TV last week: "Hey—can we get some of those?". Well, of course we can! So next thing you know, I've got an all-morning stay at the car repair shop, which gives me the chance to kill some time, darn the luck, at the garden shop just down the street. Their dahlia tubers are out on display, and there it is: Dahlia 'Pink Floyd'. (Yes, folks, yet another Floyd.) This dahlia's a "Decorative" type, and if the picture on the package does it justice, it should be a lovely brushed rose-pink over yellow. So this one's for you, honey. I hope this will make up for all the times I declined to go to the laser light shows at Golden Gate Park.
Well, dahlias are indeed stunning, especially when they bloom like crazy. I'm planning to start my own garden of dahlias this year. Recently, I received a set of dahlia tubers, although I want to plant them straight in my yard, I don't have enough knowledge with regards to growing them properly. Perhaps, I'll just stick around for more handy tips and info.
